Paul, wait till you get the chance to experience cyclones - you can really
get to see weather coming from anywhere (although there is usually a
relationship to the cyclone centre), and 34 mm of rain will seem like a
light shower!

Carl.

Hi All.
The first 3 frames of the TC ILSA map animation are now on-line at
http://www.ace-net.com.au/~carls/Ilsa.htm.
I will endeavour to keep it updated as the new BoM shipping warnings become
available - the next update will be after some sleep, so will probably be a
little later than the warning issue, sometime in the morning.
Regards,
Carl.

Hey Ben from Brisbane here..
Another severe storm moved through SE QLD yesterday.. but this time it
was over central and northern parts of SE QLD.. Brisbane Storm Chaser
John Sweatman caught up with this storm, and his chase report has been
added to the BSCH recent events section..
http://www.bsch.simplenet.com/products/recentevents.htm
There were numerous reports of heavy rain and flash flooding or local
flooding from the storm.. Nambour received 82mm from the Storm, and
Maroochydore 60mm..
I also had 67mm to 9am this morning.. 30mm of that was in 30-40 mins
yesterday afternoon from a storm.. another 12mm half an hour later from
another storm (no thunder in the second one - but storm intensity rain
and winds) and the rest fell overnight in steady light/moderate rain..

Hi Everyone
Well, the conditions are looking good today with LI's of -4 along the
coast for most of the day and CAPE values up around 600 as well. Myself,
Greg, Ira and John are chasing up towards Lancelin around lunch time and
heading back towards the city later in the day. Radar loops and sat pics
would be most appreciated :-)
Myself and Greg have our mobile phones with us, my number is 0407991213
and Gregs number is 0411656990. Updates also greatly appreciated :-)
Regards
Mark

Gday Carl & Everyone.
I have experienced a Cat 5 TC last year - Matt Smith, Greg Browning,
Nick Sykes & myself were in Darwin for TC Thelma - we had 770mm in 48
hours - so I guess we experienced some heavy rain!! I remember on many
occasions all of us racing outside to see this wall of water falling
from the sky - and the noise was amazing!!
Paul.

Hi everyone
I was up there for Thelma as well last year and there wasn't anywhere near
that amount in 48 hours - was about 440mm - still a heap of rain but almost
half the amount you are talking about. I do agree that the rain was
phenomenal at times however - even though during the first 24 hours of it
scraping by Darwin I was in a pub watching it on TV with about 20 nervous
backpackers
I hope that the storms up there are starting to become more typical of
normal build up/early Wet storms, cos I know the ones I saw this year paled
in comparison to the storms last year. Extrememly different build up this
year up there - something most ppl I talked to put down to the fact that
there wasn't really a Dry season in 1998.
Chris

Well Chris - you musnt have seen the BOM rainfall totals for the
different suburbs. The botanic Gardens rainfall guage recorded 770mm in
the 48 hour period, Howard Springs recorded 430mm in 24 hours and over
700 for the 48 hour period and most of the Northern Suburbs of Darwin
recorded totals over 700mm for the 48 HOur period as well. Darwins Total
rainfall for Dec 98 was well over 800mm, and the yearly total was the
highest ever at 2490mm - being 10th decile and the highest total on
record.

Just to make sure my memory isnt going senile - I am going to ring the
BOM here tomorrow and get some actual figures. I know that at Casurina
Shopping Centre the BOM have a display set up with rain fall data - and
the dec 98 graph was amazing with the phenomenal jump.
Anyway I will ring them just to make sure that my mind wasnt lost
somewhere on the plane........... .
